DMS Imaging signs collaboration agreement with Australian firm Micro-X

The French imaging systems specialist will integrate cold cathode X-ray tubes manufactured by Micro-X into its new mobile solution.

“The carbon nanotube (CNT) is much smaller and more efficient than conventional X-ray tubes, and the X-rays generated are more effective on the whole,” maintains Samuel Sancerni, Managing Director of DMS Imaging. The French specialist in imaging system development, design and manufacture discovered Micro-X’s new technology four years ago at the RSNA (Radiology Society of North America) conference in Chicago. Today, the Australian firm is still the world’s only supplier of cold cathode X-ray tubes for use in radiology.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, it became clear that smaller, mobile imaging equipment was needed to provide seamless care in hospital settings. To meet this need, DMS Imaging is developing a mobile radiology solution through its French subsidiary Apelem. It is scheduled for international launch in late 2023.

This solution is part of a more global, high-end project called MC2, which includes a surgical C-arm that will be developed in parallel. Everything will be manufactured in France. The project is 50% financed by the French government through the France Relance recovery plan and the Investments for the Future Program (PIA).

“I think that 10 years from now, nanotube X-rays will have replaced existing technologies in all areas of radiology. (…) They can be incorporated into smaller, lighter, more adaptable, and patient-friendly systems that provide more accurate diagnostics,” says Samuel Sancerni, Managing Director of DMS Imaging

This technological and industrial partnership is a two-way venture. The Australian firm is going to integrate ADAM, the easy-to-use software suite developed by DMS Imaging to help radiologists capture, process, display, and analyze images.

DMS Imaging, a member of the French Healthcare Association, designs two main types of equipment: bone densitometers (to measure bone density) and digital imaging systems. It also makes white label equipment for leading radiology brands. It has a network of over 120 distributors across 140 countries.
