The global health crisis boosted activity for Sterimed, the world leader in sterile packaging. Not only was the firm’s usual activity under pressure with orders increasing by 30 to 40%, but they also participated in an air lift established between France and China that made it possible to import tens of millions of surgical masks.

With 1,000 employees, the group, whose main production site is in the Pyrénées-Orientales, makes sterile packaging for manufacturers of single-use medical devices. Through distributors, it also makes packaging for reusable instruments like syringes, catheters, etc. for hospitals. The international vaccination campaign requiring a single-use syringe for each injection has dramatically increased demand for its vital products.

Established in 2016, Sterimed emerged from ArjoWiggins’ healthcare branch. The group, which is based outside of Paris, in Issy-les-Moulineaux, now has 8 production sites and 20 sales offices around the world. In France, in addition to their main production site, a 10-person workshop in Valenciennes, in northern France, makes traceability stations for surgical instruments. In 2020, the group generated €150 million in revenue.

The company is currently in exclusive negotiation to acquire the sterile-film activity of the Australian firm Amcor, another world leader in the sterilization sector. That would include the acquisition of a new production site in Coulommiers, east of Paris, and would bring revenue to €200 million in 2021.
