Simedys is completing a major collaboration with the University of Bologna in Italy, following the signing in January 2024 of a partnership with ‘Alma mater studiorum – Università di Bologna’ to develop surgical simulation in Italy.
Simedys is continuing its collaboration with the University of Bologna, begun in 2022 and contracted in January 2024, with a new demonstration of its innovative surgical simulation technologies taking place in September 2024. To mark the occasion, the company has formed a partnership with Keyros Medica, also a member of French Healthcare Association, to offer complementary expertise and promote the strength of French Healthcare’s network in export markets.
Further successes in the internationalisation of Simedys’ expertise in surgical simulation
The solutions offered by Simedys, a member of French Healthcare Association, provide ultra-realistic surgical training, with learners immersed in a simulated operating theatre, identical to their future working environment.
Professor Stefano Ratti, Scientific Director of the Anatomical Centre at the University of Bologna, the national reference centre for body donation, headed by Professor Lucia Manzoli, expressed his interest in Simedys’ expertise in July 2022. Indeed, body donation for scientific purposes has been authorised by the Italian government since 10 February 2020. Italian medical universities can now develop their teaching and research activities in anatomy, as well as their training in surgery on anatomical models.
A first demonstration was then organised with the university in January 2023, to promote revolutionary life simulation technologies on a body donated to science. This event enabled the company to perform 20 surgeries in 2 days thanks to 2 donors, giving 60 surgeons the opportunity to test this cutting-edge technology.
Following the official signing of the partnership agreement with ‘Alma mater studiorum – Università di Bologna’ in January 2024, Simedys organised a new session last September to produce a campaign film to promote the donation of the body to science in Italy. The film, made by audiovisual and communications professionals from the Emilia Romagna region, will soon be broadcast in Italy.
Collaboration within French Healthcare’s network to promote French expertise in surgical simulation internationally
This collaboration also enables SIMEDYS to put the University of Bologna in touch with other members of French Healthcare Association, depending on the needs of the various partners. In September 2024, SIMEDYS invited Keyros Medica to present its video recording solution from the operator’s point of view, and to offer its Virtual Reality video tutorials for Italian surgical students. The two members have thus joined forces to offer complementary expertise for export, providing both partners with an opportunity for exchange and visibility, and customers with comprehensive solutions tailored to the specific needs of the Italian team. Thanks to this synergy, the partnership between Keyros Medica and Simedys has been considerably strengthened.
Simedys’ extensive capacity for innovation and commitment to promoting France’s international reputation earned it a prestigious Prix Galien 2024 nomination in New York, in the “start-up” category, in November 2024.
