During a historic meeting – a milestone in France-Kuwait relations in the field of healthcare – Dr Ali AlMusawi announced the signing of five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health and several internationally renowned French medical institutions that are members of the French Healthcare Association.
The official signing ceremony took place on 18 July at the Kuwaiti Embassy in Paris, in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Health, Dr Ahmad AlAwadi, Head of the Health Office at the Embassy of the State of Kuwait in the French Republic and a strong supporter of French projects in Kuwait, and His Excellency the Ambassador, Mr Abdullah AlShahin.
Foch Hospital, the Institut Curie, the Institut Mutualiste Montsouris, the Rothschild Hospital Foundation and Almaviva Group have all demonstrated their commitment to establishing high-level bilateral cooperation in healthcare through an unprecedented signing ceremony. This is the first time since the creation of the Health Office in Paris in 2008 that such a large number of agreements have been signed in a single day.
The direct support of the Minister of Health made it possible to achieve this major milestone, confirming the Kuwaiti leadership’s commitment to making international health a pillar of the national health system’s development.
Strategic partnerships for medical cooperation
According to Dr AlMusawi, these agreements are a direct response to the guidelines set out by His Highness the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, during his recent official visit to France. He had called for stronger bilateral cooperation in the field of health for the benefit of Kuwaiti citizens.
The agreements signed cover several key areas for the development of Kuwaiti health services:
- Reception and treatment of Kuwaiti patients in France,
- Specialised training programmes for Kuwaiti medical staff,
- Visits by French doctors to Kuwait,
- Support for hospital management and development in Kuwait,
- Support for scientific research and continuing medical education.
A strategic step forward for the development of Kuwait’s healthcare system
For Dr AlMusawi, these agreements represent ‘a qualitative step towards a lasting medical partnership with France’, reaffirming the objective of improving the quality of care offered to Kuwaiti citizens while benefiting from French medical expertise.
This initiative is also part of a broader effort to modernise the Kuwaiti healthcare system. The country is seeking to diversify its international partnerships to meet the growing needs of its population for specialised care.
French Healthcare Association, which brings together the main French players in the healthcare export sector, has been supporting the development of these partnerships with Gulf countries for several years, where there is strong demand for French medical expertise.
