Cardiology monitoring is a key health issue, attracting more and more innovative young companies. Among them, Ensweet stands out by raising 3 million euros to develop its tele-rehabilitation solutions.
The Importance of Cardiac Rehabilitation
Every year in France, 100,000 patients suffer a heart attack or other cardiac event, resulting in 12,000 deaths, according to the Heart and Research Foundation. For survivors, the WHO strongly recommends an individualized rehabilitation program to reduce the risk of relapse. However, rehabilitation services are overwhelmed, and more than 70% of patients do not have access to these services, according to the Regional Health Agency (ARS).
Ensweet’s Innovative Solution
In response to this situation, Ensweet has developed a hybrid tele-rehabilitation solution that allows patients to be monitored from their homes. Founded in 2020, this Lille-based startup recently raised 3 million euros from Mutuelle Impact, AG2R La Mondiale, Angels Santé, and other historical investors such as Nord France Amorçage (NFA), Finovam 2, and makesense, supported by several business angels specializing in health. This funding adds to the 800,000 euros raised in 2022.
Functioning and Objectives of the Solution
Ensweet’s solution, marketed since 2022 under Article 51 (allowing reimbursement for two years by Health Insurance), is an application for caregivers, fed by data from a belt and a connected bike at patients’ homes. Currently used by 1,000 people per year and 30 rehabilitation establishments, Ensweet aims to monitor 60,000 patients per year by 2030.
Founder Fabien Watrelot explains that the solution was designed “with health authorities to streamline the care pathway” and “save money.”
Competition and Expansion
In the niche market of post-cardiac event care, Ensweet competes with the American company Movn Health. The startup is currently focusing on France, with European ambitions in the medium term.
Telemonitoring in Cardiology
In terms of telemonitoring in cardiology, particularly for patients with heart failure, several French startups have positioned themselves in recent years. In France, of the 500,000 people who could benefit from remote monitoring, less than one in three is actually monitored remotely, although telemonitoring reduces their mortality by about 30%.
Satelia: Market Leader
The market leader, the Satelia application, launched in 2017, is used by 10,000 heart failure patients per day and 300 medical establishments in France. With a B2B economic model, its use is reimbursed by Health Insurance and validated by the High Health Authority (HAS). The Bordeaux-based startup develops smart medical devices aimed at “improving the quality of life and reducing hospitalizations of people with heart failure,” according to its founder Nicolas Pages.
Implicity: A Direct Competitor
In France, Satelia’s direct competitor is Implicity. Founded in 2017, this Paris-based startup has convinced 250 medical centers and equips more than 100,000 patients, including 55,000 in France. Implicity is also reimbursed by Social Security and received HAS validation in December 2024. In April 2022, the startup raised 22 million euros in Series A to expand to the United States.
New Players in the Market
A new player, Cardidom, founded in October 2023, offers remote monitoring through a 4G-connected medical device. Used by a hundred patients and a dozen establishments and private cardiologists, the solution is also reimbursed.
Market Structuring
The telemonitoring in cardiology market continues to structure itself. In 2021, the La Poste group acquired the Lille-based startup Newcard, specializing in monitoring patients with heart failure, with its application “1 Minute pour mon Cœur.”
